A Son’s Wedding; Once Upon A Time
on the first Tuesday in December of 2012. . . . . . the two became one.
What a celebrated week in Punta Cana December 2012. The week was a culmination, and at the same
time, a new beginning. Imagining, praying, envisioning, dreaming that Kyle and
Tracie would be husband and wife for 7 ½ years, and then it became a reality!
This mom couldn’t be happier!
I suspect all moms with grown sons or daughters feel the
immense joy I have experienced.
It was such a perfect setting, digging our toes into the
white powdery sand on the beach on the south shore of the Dominican Republic.
The staff at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort in the Punta Cana area made our
experience remarkable. In fact, they got to know our group so well they called
us the “Miami Vice” wedding. It was one of the ‘go to drinks’ and was made
regularly for many in the group!
As mother of the groom, I offered to iron the linen
wedding clothes. Kyle looked so handsome in his white jacket and coral shirt.
Flip-flops and long white pants with a starfish boutonniere represented the
star that he is. His disposition all week made him taller than his already 6’3”
frame and his chest bulged beyond the months and countless hours of diligent
training in the gym.
Tracie, the princess whom I loved the first time we had
tea together had prepared the finer details of their wedding day and although
she could not tame the prevailing strong winds, all other elements were
perfect! On her mom’s arm she came onto the beach and into view. Over my right
shoulder I heard her soon-to-be-husband say, “Oh my God; she is beautiful!”
Vows, exchanging of the rings, the wedding kiss, signing
of the register and Kyle and Tracie creating a unified sand jar was a beautiful
moment in time. Following lots of photos, we rode the wedding train back to the
reception hall.
Justina also gave Kyle pointers and the
ability to comprehend what Tracie’s answers ‘really mean’. Lots more laughs
were had! Mister Steve Taylor with his
beautiful bride Katie was the victor in the ‘best kiss’ game.
Heartfelt speeches from Dustin, Kyle’s best man, and
Diane, Tracie’s MOH, demonstrated the fine friends this beautiful couple have
attracted into their lives. Deb, Tracie’s mom welcomed a son into her family
and Glenn and I welcomed a daughter into ours.
Somewhere Over the Rainbow, way up high,
There's a land that I heard of, once in a lullaby . . .
And the dancing began! Laughter and joy accompanied our Waltzes, Gangnam moves, Jives, and individual break out steps.
Kyle had to ‘retrieve’ the garter and the lucky recipient
of the garter shoot was Uncle Alan. Lara, Tracie’s sister caught the bride’s bouquet
so Momma Patterson has another wedding to look forward to! Just to keep the
crowd engaged with more laughs, Uncle Al had to put the garter on sister Lara
using only his teeth! Carefully done, he hoists his hands in victory!
Although what seemed like a quick moment in time, the
week with our family and Kyle and Tracie’s friends made for a very special and
celebrated week. This Momma’s heart is overflowing with joy, happiness and anticipation.
A sincere congratulations to my marvelous son and precious daughter –in-law, and they lived happily ever after.
Thanks to all those who contributed photos and to a most wonderful wedding week!
